A study published in the British Medical Journal's online BMJ Open shows that all types of prescription hypnotics including sedative antihistamines increased risk of death.

Prescriptions of hypnotics including sleeping pills and sedative antihistamines are associated with increased risk of death. A recent study found that the increased death hazard was more than 3.5 times higher even for patients receiving only 18 doses per year, as compared to non-users of hypnotics.
